We appreciate everyone's patience and hope to provide an update soon. ***UPDATE*** January 6, 2021 We apologize for the lack of updates over the last few months. There have been a lot of changes and it has taken us all working together to stay up to date.
Since 12/28/20, the facility has only had 2 employees test positive for COVID. We have been fortunate that no residents have tested positive since 12/10/20! We are continuing to test per CDC guidance. The county positivity rate was 12.9% on 12/30/20.
The facility is scheduled to receive the first round of COVID vaccines next week. Staff is discussing the vaccine with residents and calling responsible parties if applicable. Consent/declination forms must be completed by Friday 1/8 so we can have an accurate number of doses ready for administration.
Outdoor/indoor visitation is still restricted due to a variety of factors. We evaluate these restrictions routinely.
Lastly, we are allowing compassionate care visits. We are evaluating these on a case by case basis. End of life situations are a prime example of a compassionate care visit. Due to the guidance from CMS we are still limiting the number of visitors and the frequency and duration of the visits. We understand this is a terrible time and are doing everything we can to work family's, but we must still be compliant with federal guidelines.

***UPDATE*** October 9, 2020 The facility only had one positive case this week out of approximately 85 tests. We have many factors to consider but will be discussing the potential for visitation in the near future so long as our situation continues to improve.

update soon. ***UPDATE*** September 18, 2020 We have been working hard these last few weeks. We apologize for being unable to post updates on our website. We have been calling resident representatives (aka. sponsors) weekly and providing updates on testing results.
We have been fighting COVID tooth and nail the last few weeks. The battle is not over, but we do feel as if we are on the downhill side of it. We had 10 positive resident cases this week and 1 positive staff case.
A lot of staff are overwhelmed and exhausted, but they are pushing to continue caring for our residents. They are true heroes for enduring through such a tough situation with an extremely scary amount of unknown. Most have a family at home and were scared to contract COVID, but even moreso to be the cause of their family becoming ill with it. They stayed the course and continued to work to ensure our residents had the best care available during this pandemic.
We had our fourth infection control survey on Monday September 14th. This is the fourth survey since July 27th. We are expecting it to be our fourth deficiency free survey as well.
We have been overwhelmed with COVID, but also with support from the community. Southerncare Hospice and the McGriff family provided lunch to all our employees. Those were completely unexpected acts of kindness but so very much appreciated and I believe gave the entire facility a much needed boost!
I can't begin to say how proud I am of our staff for their dedication and loyalty.
We have received guidance regarding visitation. Based on the guidance and state mandate we are still unable to allow visitation, except for compassionate care situations. As our situation improves, we will be looking at ways to open the facility and resume visitation. Please bear with us. This is difficult for us also.

August 26, 2020 We tested all employees on Monday, 8/24. We are waiting on the final 3 results. 14 employees tested positive.
Please remember this was always a matter of "when, not if" COVID would make its way into our facility. Unfortunately it found its way in. Now we need to focus on preventing the spread. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we now have an uphill battle to rid the facility of this nasty virus.

***UPDATE*** August 10, 2020 All resident test results from 8/5 have been received. One result was positive.
That resident has been isolated per CDC guidance and re-tested to verify the initial results weren't a false positive.
We will continue to follow CDC guidance and will be testing all staff again on Wednesday 8/12.

***UPDATE*** July 1, 2020 Since an employee tested positive outside of the facility, we initiated mandatory testing for all residents and staff per CDC guidance. 100% of residents and over 99% of staff have been tested. Since we began testing, one staff member tested positive but is asymptomatic.
One resident's results were inconclusive. Inconclusive can mean several things, such as the sample was contaminated during testing, transport, or processing. This resident will be retested as soon as possible.

***UPDATE*** June 29, 2020 The facility tested approximately 120 residents and staff members Friday. We received additional supplies today and all but 10 or so staff members have been tested. In total, the facility has tested almost 275 individuals in 2 days time. The staff has been nothing short of AMAZING!
We received approximately 30 negative results earlier this afternoon as well, so continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
***UPDATE*** June 26, 2020 The facility was notified that a staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual contracted COVID-19 from a family member. We believe the exposure to residents and other staff members to be minimal because the facility has been following strict screening and infection control protocols. Unfortunately, the means the hugging booth will be closed until further notice. Video chats will still be available. We will post another update if any new information becomes available.
***UPDATE*** June 19, 2020 The facility is still COVID-19 free.

Guidance for a potential phased reopening of nursing homes has been released. We are unsure if or when this phased approach will occur. We are waiting on more clarification at this time.
The facility had an Infection Control COVID-19 survey. We are happy to report the facility was deficiency FREE. Our staff has done an excellent job preparing, preventing, and responding to every directive that's been issued. Their hard work and dedication is remarkable!

Governor Ivey released the "Safer at Home" order earlier this week. While it does provide guidance for some businesses to reopen, health care is still subject to previous guidance and will remain closed to the public.
To date, 6 residents and 12 employees have been tested for COVID-19 and ALL tests results have been negative. We are thankful and continue to work diligently to prevent COVID-19 from entering our building.
ADPH has partnered with the national guard to provide some additional cleaning to nursing homes in the state. Although we haven't had a positive case of COVID-19, the national guard will be sending 2 specially trained teams to the facility next Wednesday to disinfect the facility to further help keep COVID-19 at bay.
The facility has applied for a grant for some tablets that can be used to facilitate video calls and activities for our residents. We hope to have more information soon.
We feel the pain of our residents and the community every day. The want and need to return to normalcy is itching at all of us, but please do your part. Cover your nose and mouth, wash your hands, and be diligent while out in the community. We hope things will improve in our community soon, but until we are given further guidance we will continue to do the best we can to keep everyone informed and in contact with their loved ones.

Earlier this week the facility was notified of a potential exposure of two residents by a contract employee. Neither resident has shown any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 so far. We have taken appropriate precautions to prevent any further exposure.
We are continuing to screen everyone that enters the building for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.
We are blessed to have such a wonderful staff that is dedicated day in and day out knowing something like COVID-19 could show up at our doorstep any day.
If you see an essential worker (not just healthcare), please thank them and show them your support and appreciation. (preferably from at least 6 feet away) Essential workers are keeping the world turning.

I've been told there are rumors spreading that Hatley Health Care has a confirmed case of COVID-19 and that one resident has died from it.
Those rumors are NOT true!
There was a potential exposure but neither resident was suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19. We took extra precautions to ensure everyone's safety but it was not required.
One of the residents that was potentially exposed did pass away from unrelated causes.

Most everyone already knows COVID-19 has been confirmed in Chilton County. Unfortunately, we were informed by APDH today that a couple of our residents have potentially been exposed. The precautions recommended by ADPH have been in place since 3/17. We are taking additional precautions to provide an extra layer of safety for our residents. Appropriate individuals will be notified of their loved ones status.
Please do not call to ask if a resident has been exposed. We do not need a flood of calls to prevent us from caring for our residents.

A case of COVID-19 (aka Coronavirus) has been confirmed in Montgomery. at this time we have not seen any guidance from CDC, CMS, or any other state or federal agency recommending to ban all unnecessary visitors. However, Hatley Health Care will be taking a proactive approach and is banning ALL visitation unless medically necessary or for an emergency situation. All emergency access must be granted by the administrator, Director of Nursing, or Asst Director of Nursing.
We understand the stress and concern regarding the limited access and will do our best to keep everyone in our community informed.

Due to the current COVID-19 (aka Coronavirus) outbreak situation, we feel it is necessary to take every precaution possible to protect our residents' health and safety.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has carefully reviewed the death rate in the elderly. Experts are recommending we limit individuals from entering our building and to ensure sick employees stay home.
Early data shows that
- The mortality rate for people over 80?in the general population is 15% in China.
- The World Health Organization?report estimates?the mortality rate at 21.9% for those over 80.
- At the nursing home in Washington state, there have been 50 residents who have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. As of March 9, 2020, 19 of those have died. This is a high death rate.
There is a risk that people who appear healthy will enter nursing homes and infect residents. Studies of past viral epidemics where recommending prevention was delayed were not effective. These studies show that the sooner we limit interactions with each other and wash your hands frequently virus spreads more slowly.
These facts have led many to recommend severe limitations on visitors. This describes why we are taking the following action:
1. Visiting hours will be limited to 8am-5pm unless an emergency effective immediately. (Emergency access will be granted only by Administrator, Director of Nursing, or Asst. Director of Nursing)
2. The main lobby door will be the only point of entry for the entire facility (staff members may let visitors exit through other front doors)
3. Activities involving members of the community are being suspended until further notice.
4. All visitors will be required to sign in and answer some basic questions about their health and visit.
5. All visitors will be required to use alcohol based hand rub (ABHR) upon entry and are encouraged to practice proper hand hygiene at all times.
We hope this explains to you why we are asking people to limit their visits. This may prevent you from physically seeing your family member or friend. Our residents’ health and safety are our top concern.
To our knowledge there are NO confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Alabama. That means we have NO confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our facility and are committed to doing everything we can to stay this way.
